Under the No Surprises Act, federal law provides certain protections for people who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use their insurance to pay for healthcare services.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate provides an estimate of the expected charges for scheduled healthcare services. If you are uninsured or choose to pay for your care without using insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.
Your Good Faith Estimate will outline the services you are expected to receive and the associated estimated charges. The estimate is not a bill, and actual care may vary based on your individual treatment needs.
When will I receive my Good Faith Estimate?
We will provide a Good Faith Estimate when required by law. You may also request an estimate before scheduling services.
If you schedule care at least 3 business days in advance, federal rules generally require a Good Faith Estimate to be provided within the applicable timeframe. You may also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time before receiving services.
What if my bill is significantly higher than my estimate?
If you are uninsured or self-pay and your final bill is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process.
